2020 mileage: 3970.6

When I saw the physician's assistant late this afternoon, about the abdominal pain I first noticed during yesterday's ride and which convinced me I should not ride today, I showed him a rather vague note explaining that the pain I was experiencing was not constant, and located slightly right of center and fairly high (above the navel). I also said that, while I didn't know if this made any sense, it seemed to me to be like a pulled muscle.

After examining me, he concluded that, "You're something of a mystery." Based on location ("Kind of in no-man's land between major organs") and what he could observe, he ruled out anything like a major problem with my appendix or gallbladder. He said that, "Somethimes these things are slow to develop, and while it's good that you jumped right on this, it's possible that in a couple more days, we'd say, 'Oh, of course - THAT'S what it is!' " For now, though, the strategy is just to monitor it closely and see how things shape up over coming days. And before leaving, I had blood drawn in their lab, and he will contact me with the results.

Most grievous to me was the fact that he said, "Since there is a chance that it's a pulled abdominal muscle, I'm going to ask you to refrain from riding for a few days so you don't aggravate it." Hard as this will be, I'll be a good boy and obey orders.
