95th ride of 2020 - Thursday, 8/13/2020
2020 mileage: 2760.3
The surgeon said that actually, in some ways, it may have been a good thing that the incision reopened, allowing accumulated fluid to be released that way so that my body did not have to remove it. At any rate, I was cleared to ride (with the strong admonition: "NO MORE FALLS!" 😎)
Therefore, I was delighted to go out and ride this afternoon. Following my 9:00 a.m. doctor's appointment, I came home and took a good healthy nap, having been up since 3:30, and knowing that it did not rule out a good ride since it was not supposed to get excessively hot today.
When I went out at 1:00, it was 84° and partly sunny, and that temperature actually fell a couple of degrees during the course of my ride. I rode my Packard/Platt Square, getting 13.7 miles in 1:29. It was almost incident-free. However ...
When I had the trike at the dealer (Jack's in Dearborn) in midsummer to address several issues, one of them was to true the right wheel. (Having all the spokes tight with fairly even tension makes a wheel "true.") However, my fall on Monday after I allowed that right wheel to drift into a rut beside the sidewalk, threw it back out of true—and this was clearly evident to my eye during today's ride, as that right wheel showed a very pronounced wobble. So, I'll be taking it back to the dealer tomorrow morning.
