53rd ride of 2020 - Monday, 5/18/2020

2020 mileage: 1837.6

We are experiencing a pretty much daylong rain today, but I strongly wanted to get in at least a modest ride. This presented a problem, which I addressed by riding laps in our complex so that I wouldn't be caught out in a big soaker while several miles away from home.

One lap is about .47 mile, and in order to do 10 miles, I rode 21 laps, which is (at least) as boring as it sounds. The last time I had ridden laps was back during a late  season snowfall on April 17. I was encouraged today by repeated listenings of Mendelssohn's jubilant Italian symphony (his Symphony No. 4).

Looking at the radar weather map, it seemed to me that we might experience a window of light to no rain around 11:30, so I went out then. However, it was still raining fairly heavily at that point, so I sat on a chair in the garage with the door open, observing for a while. Finally, after about 20 minutes, although it hadn't stopped raining completely, it had lightened up enough for me to feel I could ride. At 58°, it was not uncomfortable, although I came into our home afterwards with my hoodie THOROUGHLY soaked. But I'm glad that I could at least get a ride done.
