32nd ride of 2020 - Monday, 4/20/2020
2020 mileage: 1445.7
I went out today at 12:45 on an absolutely GORGEOUS day (sunny, and 49°, climbing to 56° by the time I finished), and rode the ride that I had hoped to do yesterday, but couldn't, due to the tire problem I had. But Wheels in Motion got me repaired, so that everything went fine today—I rode to Saline (the far west end, where the sidewalk that runs along parallel to Michigan Ave. (or US 12) stops, and then on the way back I went to Marsh Park, giving me a total ride of 20.0 miles, in 2:09.
Michelle asks (very understandably, given my medical history and the plague of distracted drivers that we face) that I keep my riding off the road, and I consider myself highly fortunate that a good network of trails and sidewalks around here allows me to get clear down to Saline. I take the sidewalk beside Lohr Rd. down to Ellsworth Rd., and then jump on the Lohr-Textile Greenway (trail), taking it down to Textile, and then west to Woodland. I then take the sidewalk beside Woodland down to Ann Arbor-Saline Rd., and the sidewalk along that in to the center of Saline, from which I ride the sidewalk west, past Wellers about another mile, as far as I can go before turning around.
On the way back home, I go on past the center of Saline, east to Maple Rd., and then north along that back to Woodland. Following it north, I turn right (east) along Industrial, and follow it around to Campus, which I take past Saline High School over to where I can pick up Community, and follow that north into the Bicentennial subdivision, and then follow Bicentennial east to Wilson, Wilson north to Textile, and then I'm back on the Greenway which takes me on my familiar route to Marsh Park.
On my way out today, I listened to Pharrell Williams's song Happy on repeat for 20 minutes or so and then switched over to my Devotional Music playlist. Coming home I switched to Spanish Guitar Instrumentals.
About a half mile before reaching home, an unfortunate incident occurred; On the sidewalk ahead of me, a lady was ambling along desultorily with her head down buried in her phone, and a nippy little dog shooting back and forth on a 10-foot leash ahead of her. I slowed almost to a stop, and made my way carefully around her ... but when she saw me, she exclaimed heatedly, in great surprise, "O my God! JESUS CHRIST!" Had I not been mute, I probably would have smiled and said, "Oh—you know Him too?" But, as it was, I will concede that it was probably best today that I am mute." 😎
