9th ride of 2020 - Sunday, 3/15/2020
2020 mileage: 1089.6
With no in-person worship at church this morning due to the restrictions brought about by the coronavirus, Michelle and I had been home without a break all day, so it was especially nice to get out and ride this afternoon. Bright sunshine made it a treat, and the fact that it was 46° as opposed to yesterday's 36° made an immense difference—only 10 degrees, yes, but I was incredibly more comfortable today.
I could have (and perhaps should have) ridden consecutive round trips to Marsh Park, but instead I chose to do a single trip there and then augment it on the way home by two laps around Stonebridge (the residential subdivision off Lohr Rd. just over a mile south of us, surrounding a gold course),. This gave me a total ride of 15.2 miles, in 1:45.
I've continued to inch closer to having my battery pack work OK. Today I decided, instead of a single cable to connect the phone and battery (a short cable, roughly 8 inches) to also use the second one in the two-pack Amazon sent me, chaining them together. This helped, but with the two units residing in two different neck pouches, I still need to by hyper vigilant about making sure the cord remains plugged in to the phone, else it's liable to pull out, necessitating a stop and an attempt to get things hooked up properly again. During the first half of my ride, I again had some issues -- but after reaching the park and turning around to head back toward Stonebridge, I got it set OK and it remained powering the phone through the remaining hour-plus of my ride. This small victory felt good.
I also reached a big decision today. I sort of hate to come to it, but whereas I was hoping to ride 63 miles on Tuesday (my 63rd birthday), I decided that the battery issues and the funky weather, which has not allowed me to ride enough outdoors to really get my legs in shape (for what would have been my longest ride to date), as well as the general malaise hanging over me due to the coronavirus (although it hasn't really affected me much directly) are issues too great to overcome. So I'm going to table that hope (maybe 64 miles on my 64th birthday, though?), and aim for 63.5 on my 'half-birthday,' September 17, when weather shouldn't an issue (unless we're battling a downpour).
