6th ride of 2020 - Thursday, 3/12/2020

2020 mileage: 1056.7

Today's ride was both good and bad.

The good? Weather allowed me to ride outside (46° when I began at 1:30, and 51° when I finished, remaining solidly overcast throughout)] Plus, the cable I ordered from Amazon to connect my auxiliary battery pack and phone arrived yesterday, so I was able to try it today.

The bad? (1) The cable is short (only less than 8 inches), so it kept unplugging from the phone. This happened three times, necessitating each time a stop, fishing the battery out of the pocket of my neck pouch where it resided, turning it on, being sure everything was connected again and repositioned back where it belonged ... and then it would happen again a few minutes later. (2) My MapMyRide app malfunctioned, shutting off entirely for the bulk of the second half of my ride, so I have no video to share. (3) Not long before the end of my ride, I began pedaling rapidly with no resistance. This told me that the chain was not connected, and I could see that it was off the front gear. So I tried to reconnect it ... but there was insufficient slack in the chain to allow this. Upon investigating why, I discovered that the chain had somehow become perversely wound around the rear gear. Trying for all I was worth, for several minutes, I could not get it untangled, so I figured it best to walk the trike home (about a quarter mile, up the hill from Oak Valley and Lohr to our complex). the trike is so short, and I am (well, not "so tall," but tall enough to make walking it clumsy and highly inconvenient) so that I could pull up a chair and work on it in our garage.

At any rate, though I had considered at one point doing a longer ride, I ended up settling for a single round trip to Marsh Park, augmented by a lap in Stonebridge on the way home, for 1 ride of 12.6 miles in what I am estimating to be about 1:20.
